Ocean waste: A Threat to the living

Image
Ocean waste: A Threat to the living By: Izzabella Uy Ocean waste mostly originates on land, mainly coming from people who use items that are used then discarded. The discarded items can be washed away by flooding, storms, hurricanes and tsunamis, and natural disasters, leading its way to the ocean. Ocean waste contains several contaminants that pose a threat to every living thing and may have possibilities of spreading poison and sickness such as chemicals that are thrown or washed to the ocean. Here are ways to prevent it,  prevent waste from entering the ocean by reducing, reusing, and recycling materials, particularly plastics. Plastic Waste: A Comprehensive Guide to Disposal in our Land

Image
PLASTIC WASTE: A COMPREHENSIVE GUIDE TO DISPOSAL IN OUR LAND . By: Kleeroie Dela Rosa - Philippines generates a staggering 2.7 million tons of plastic waste every year? That's a huge amount! Unfortunately, around 20% of this waste finds its way into the sea, making the Philippines the world's third largest producer of plastic waste. It's a pressing issue that needs attention. One significant contributor to this problem is the Pasig River. With its rich history and significance to the country, it's disheartening to see it become a source of pollution. Together, we can work towards finding innovative solutions to reduce plastic waste and preserve the natural beauty of this incredible nation. Give our Actions a Warning to Prevent Global Warming

Image
GIVE OUR ACTIONS A WARMING TO PREVENT GLOBAL WARMING By: Heaven Santos Global Warming of Fossil Fuel is one  of the most major problems in the whole world, until now. Why can't we handle our own actions to prevent these things?  -Fossil fuels play a significant role in contributing to global warming, which is undoubtedly the largest environmental problem of our lifetime. These fuels release greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere, acting like a blanket that traps the sun's heat and prevents it from escaping back into space. As a result, the Earth's temperature rises, leading to various negative effects such as melting ice caps, rising sea levels, and more frequent extreme weather events. This issue is not only a concern for our current generation but also for the future of our planet. It calls for urgent action and a shift towards cleaner and more sustainable sources of energy. By embracing renewable energy alternatives and adopting eco-friendly practices, we can collective

Healthcare waste: A Danger for life

Image
Healthcare waste: A Danger for life By: Missy Martinez Healthcare waste is a discarded waste from hospitals that is no longer in need or has already been used for medical purposes. These are hazardous chemicals, bodily fluid waste, infectious waste, etc. Improper disposal of  this can harm the air we breathe because of how the toxic chemicals can easily spread in the air. This will also be a danger to humankind and animals that can affect the landmasses where sources of food can be found. It will also lead to infectious diseases that may or hard to treat. Medical field Facilities should practice ways and strategize on how to properly throw them for the environment to be a safe place for all.   Photo by Salman Zafar The most efficient and proper way to dispose of Medical waste: Autoclaving Which is the process of steaming the object for it to be sterilized. However, this process is only for microbiological waste.                                                       Photo by:  Michael

The Hidden Dangers of Soil Erosion

Image
The Hidden Dangers of Soil Erosion By: Sandra Maldo I t happens when the top layer of soil gets washed away by things like heavy rain or wind, or even because of activities like cutting down trees or farming in the wrong way. When soil erodes, it can lead to less fertile land, loss of farms, and more dirt getting into nearby water. To fight against soil erosion, we can use methods like making terraces, plowing in curves, and planting special crops to keep the soil in place. Taking care of our soil is super important for farming and keeping our environment healthy. https://www.nrdc.org/stories/soil-erosion-101  (photo) Effective Strategies to Stopping Soil Erosion 1. Plant vegetation: Planting trees, shrubs, and grasses helps to stabilize the soil and prevent erosion. Their roots hold the soil in place and absorb excess water. https://www.arboroperations.com.au/media-centre/how-to-plant-a-tree-step-by-step/amp/  (photo) 2. The Solution to Pollution

Image
The Solution to Pollution By: Janna Santiago Pollution has been the problem of the nation, and up until now, why can’t we find a solution? It is caused by natural pollutants and human-caused pollutants. Especially now that pollution is one of the Earth’s major problems, what should we do about it? We all know that pollution can be caused by natural reasons – which we cannot take control over, but we can take control of the pollutants that are human-made, made by our kind. So, what else can we do? We humans must do something. Since humans can be the cause of pollution, humans can also be the solution to pollution.  Here are some of the most common steps or ways to avoid pollution: 1.           Stop littering. -          Try to avoid littering, especially plastic wastes and chemicals, because this can harm soil which can cause land pollution. Also, avoid littering in bodies of water because it can contaminate drinking waters and it can make swimming water dangerous for humans. 2.

Reforest: Let's End Deforestation

Image
Deforestation is the destruction of forests. Every person on the earth is affected by this global issue. The good news is that we can all do something to stop it from happening. How to End Deforestation By: Red Solidum 1.   Plant Trees!                     I say let it grow! When it comes to combating deforestation and its consequences, replanting is a must. Reforestation, if done appropriately, can help to restore ecosystems that have been harmed, stabilize soil, sustain the water cycle, and slowly restore the ecosystem services that we rely on. So plant a tree today! Raising awareness about environmental issues may also help prevent the further damage or destruction of our forests.  You can also support and join organizations against deforestation Photo by: South_age
